Social Centre Casa Lumina (Romania)

Since 1996 Olga van Lavieren has been working among the young people in the city of Oradea in the north west of Romania. Most of the youngsters have grown up in an orphanage. When they turn 18 they are no longer cared for by the State and have to live on their own, they are forced to live on the street in very dire circumstances. The youngsters have not learned to take care of themselves and have no education.

Integration

The Casa Lumina team works on integration of the youngsters into the society. The team teaches them to be a disciple of Jesus Christ and how to put this into practice in their daily life. It guides them in their personal problems and helps them to follow courses and to find a suitable job.

Mother and Child programme

Some of the former street children have now children of their own. The mothers receive help in the upbringing of their children. Mothers receive guidance on how to raise their children and what it means to be a mother.

The parents are often uneducated themselves and therefore unable to prepare their children for school. That is why a kinder-garten was started in the Social Centre. Here children are being taught the basic skills they will need for primary school. At school the children also receive a meal. Older children are being helped with their homework.

Evangelism

In the Social Centre the young people meet regularly for Bible study and prayer. In co-operation with the local church, easily accessible meetings are also held. The young people love Jesus and are willing to serve him. They have the desire to witness of the love of God. Many of them take active part in evangelistic outreaches.
